Issue:
When I navigate in Degreed, or when I add new content to Degreed, I see that titles and/or descriptions have text such as:
- "We can't sign you in"
- "Sign in to your account"
- "JavaScript is required to sign in. Your browser either does not support JavaScript or it is being blocked."
- "Unauthorized or improper use of this system may result in administrative disciplinary action, and/or civil charges/criminal penalties. By continuing to use the system you indicate your awareness of and consent to these terms and conditions of use. STOP IMMEDIATELY if you do not agree to the conditions stated in this warning."
Cause:
Degreed uses a metadata scraper to retrieve the title and description of added content. When content is behind any type of firewall, such as a login screen, the scraper is unable to gather information about the content. As firewalls work as a security barrier, it does not allow the scraper to acquire information. This can also result in "JavaScript" being added as a skill when adding content. This is because Degreed scans the title and description of the content and attempts to match it to existing popular skills.
Resolution:
As a best practice, we recommend editing the Title and Description of the content as it is being added to Degreed to avoid unwanted text in the Title or Description. Ensure to wait a couple of minutes so that your changes are not overwritten by the metadata scraper in case it delayed kicking in.
For curators and administrators, we recommend adding the content to the Internal Catalog to allow future edits.
