Description:
When opening a video within a pathway, I want it to play without it opening in a new tab. Is it possible to play it in the same window?
Answer:
When Degreed is able to detect that the URL leads to a video file or is coming from a standard video platform - such as Youtube (e.g. https://youtu.be/857hK9YGuwE) - we open the video in the modal window of Degreed (same page).
When we do not know where the link leads into, then we open them in a separate window as the page may contain video(s), text, images etc. The page as a whole cannot be loaded into a video player.
Nonetheless, Degreed now supports the addition of videos output from externally hosted video platforms using the HLS video format. To do so, follow the steps below:
1. Convert the video in question to HLS format (this step is not performed in Degreed)
2. Add the video to Degreed just as you would add any other content item using an externally hosted .m3u8 URL
Make sure that the video URL is publicly accessible from the host
3. You should see something similar to the message shown below if the link is valid in Degreed:
4. Click Save Video
