Add Requirements to an Academy (ACM Before October 2024)

This article applies to clients with an Academies and Content Marketplace (ACM) license prior to the October 2024 Major Product Release. If you are unsure if this applies to your organization, please contact your CX Representative.

As you build your Academy curriculum, you can lock specific steps or sections in an Academy and require users to complete prior elements to unlock them. Sections and steps with a lock icon indicate that there is a requirement that needs to be met in order to access it. For more information, see Unlock Sections and Steps in an Academy.

To Add Required Steps

1. To add a requirement to a new Academy step, click Add Requirement to make an earlier step in the section required.
   1. Select one of the section's preceding steps from the dropdown menu. Users will now be required to complete this step before they can access the step you've added the requirement to.
2. To add a requirement to an existing Academy step, click the Actions menu () beside the step you want to lock and select Add Requirement.

To Add Required Sections

1. To add a requirement to an existing section, click the Actions menu () beside the section you want to lock, and select Add Requirement. Requirements can only be added to existing sections.
2. Select one of the academy's preceding sections from the dropdown menu. Users will now be required to complete this section before they can access the section you've added the requirement to.

To Edit or Remove Requirements

1. To edit or remove a requirement, click the Actions menu () beside the locked section or step and select Edit Requirement.
2. Select a new requirement from the dropdown menu or click Remove Requirement.
3. Click Save Requirement.
   
   You can also edit and remove step requirements by clicking on a locked step and making changes from within the content, event, or project editor.

What happens if I rearrange sections and steps after I've added requirements?

Rearranging sections and steps that include requirements will remove all requirements.

Can I add requirements to the first section in an Academy or the first step in a section?

The first section in an Academy and the first step in a section cannot contain requirements.

Can I add a requirement to an entire Academy?

No, only sections and steps within an Academy can have requirements.

Can I add more than one requirement to a section or a step?

No, only one requirement can be added to a section or a step.

Can I make a step a requirement to access a section?

No, sections can only be requirements for sections. Steps can only be requirements for steps.

Can I add a requirement to a step from a different section? For example, can I require users to complete a step in Section 1 to unlock a step in Section 2?

No, required steps must unlock steps in the same section.

I'm previewing my Academy. Why can't I see my requirements?

Requirements are not visible in Admin view. To preview an Academy's requirements, switch to user view and view the Academy.

What happens if a user has made progress against a section and then an Admin later adds a requirement to the section the user is working on? Will the user be able to finish the section, or will they lose progress?

Once a user has made progress against a section, it will not lock. Added requirements will only affect those users who have not made any progress towards that section.
