Skill Rating Types
There are four types of Skill Ratings available in Degreed:
- Skill Review (only available if your organization enabled this feature)
- Manager Rating
- Self Rating
- Peer Rating
The skill rating number that displays on a Skill card are based on a rating hierarchy that follows the order of importance. Skill Reviews are considered the highest rating, followed by Manager Ratings, Peer Ratings, and Self Ratings.
Skill Review
What is Skill Review?
Skill Review is an adaptive questionnaire built on Bayesian inference, a well-accepted methodology in academic research. Behind the scenes, there are over 100 questions that can be presented to you based on your responses to previous questions.
How is it Useful?
Skill Review gives you the opportunity to self-reflect on your areas of strengths and weaknesses in a skill. Once you receive your Skill Level, you can showcase your expertise to your organization or plan your next steps for development.
How Does it Work?
The science behind the questions is built on our 8-level framework. See Skill Level Descriptions for Skill Ratings for more information on skill levels. The answers to the questions narrow down the possible outcomes, one question at a time, until the result is clear.
You can set each Skill Review to Private or Public. By default, Skill Reviews are set to Private.
If you are opted-in to Skill Coach, you can set each Skill Review to Limited Visibility or Public. By default, Skill Reviews are set to Limited Visibility. If you select Limited Visibility, your Skill Review is visible to you and your manager. See Skill Coach Overview for Learners for more information about managing your Skill Coach enrollment.
See Skill Review for more detailed information about the Skill Review process.
Manager Rating
What is a Manager Rating?
A Manager Rating is a request you send to your manager to ask them to rate you on a specific skill. That person then reviews the request and rates your proficiency level using the Skill Level Descriptions for Skill Ratings.
Managers can also provide feedback. Click the Skill card to view details.
How is it Useful?
When a manager rates your proficiency in a skill, you can see where you need to strengthen your skill set. Manager Ratings can also help to track your learning and skill growth over time; combined with other rating types in Degreed, you and your manager can obtain a comprehensive look at your skill competency.
How Does it Work?
From any Skill card, you can add a Skill Rating and select Manager Rating to send a rating request.
After you send your request, a Request sent successfully message displays at the bottom of the page, and your manager receives a notification in Degreed requesting that they complete the Manager Rating.
Once your manager completes the Manager Rating, your Skill card updates with the Skill Level. Depending on your profile privacy setting, others can see your Manager Rating.
You can set each Manager Rating to Private or Public. By default, Manager Ratings are set to Private.
If you are opted-in to Skill Coach, you can set each rating to Limited Visibility or Public. By default, Manager Ratings are set to Limited Visibility. If you select Limited Visibility, your Manager Rating is visible to you and your manager. See Skill Coach Overview for Learners for more information about managing your Skill Coach enrollment.
Self Rating
What is a Self Rating?
When you self-rate a skill, you decide what your Skill Level is, based on the Skill Level descriptions for Skill Ratings. Once you select your Self Rating, the Skill Rating updates on your profile.
How Does it Work?
From any Skill card, you can add a Skill Rating and select Self Rating.
When you self-rate a skill, you choose the Skill Level that you feel best describes your current proficiency with the skill. For a modified description of each Skill Level, see Skill Level Descriptions for Skill Ratings.
You can update your Self Rating at any time after you complete your initial rating for the skill.
You can set each Self Rating to Private or Public. By default, Self Ratings are set to Private.
If you are opted-in to Skill Coach, you can set each rating to Limited Visibility or Public. By default, Self Ratings are set to Limited Visibility. If you select Limited Visibility, your Self Rating is visible to you and your manager. See Skill Coach Overview for Learners for more information about managing your Skill Coach enrollment.
Peer Rating
What is a Peer Rating?
Peer Ratings are similar to Self Ratings and Manager Ratings, but are designed to provide you with insights for skills and Skill Levels based on the ratings your peers and coworkers give you.
Your peers work with you closely on projects, work-related activities, and Opportunities. By rating your skills, you can get their perspective on what your strong skills are and the skills you need to improve.
How Does it Work?
You can request Peer Ratings for any skill on your Profile. You can send Peer Rating requests to individuals, multiple people, a single Group, or multiple Groups.
