Pathways Overview
What are Pathways?
Pathways are guided learning paths of content that track a learner's completion progress. Pathways contain content items specific to a subject or topic, and can be organized by sections and subsections of related content items.
Why are They Useful?
Pathways can enable learners to upskill, reskill, or work towards an overall goal (such as career advancement, skill enhancements, or field expertise). Using curated content items, you can create Pathways that learners can complete to continue forward in their learning journey.
About Pathway Followers and Notifications
When you add new content to an existing Pathway, all learners following the Pathway receive an in-app notification that new content was added. When learners who've completed an item in the Pathway open the Pathway for the first time, the new content is marked with a New banner and a blue line in the item's left margin so learners can quickly identify which items are new.
Pathway FAQs
How do I complete a Pathway?
To complete a Pathway, the only requirement is that you follow it.
To follow a Pathway, click + on the Pathway's card:
What's the difference between Pathway completions and Pathway Completion Status?
Following a Pathway marks the Pathway itself as complete, but not the content within it.
There is a separate Pathway completion status that displays on the Pathway page. It tells you the percentage of content within the Pathway you've marked complete.
Why didn't my Pathway status update?
When you complete content inside of a Pathway, that Pathway's completion status only updates when you both follow that Pathway and click Mark Complete for completed content items.
- If you do not click + to follow the Pathway, your Pathway completion status will not update, even if you viewed all content in the Pathway.
- When you click Mark Complete on a content item from within a Pathway, you automatically follow the Pathway. Degreed does this so:
- you can keep track of your learning,
- the Pathway status updates for you, and
- the Pathway can be easily found again, as it's automatically added to your Degreed Profile.
Why is the Insights tab not showing on the Pathway I am viewing?
The Insights tab does not display if the Pathway you are viewing does not have an organization ID associated with it. To add an organization ID to a Pathway, you can:
- Set the pathway visibility to Visible to the Organization,
- Set the pathway visibility to Visible to Specific Groups, or
- Edit the settings of the Pathway and select the Allow collaborators to publish this Pathway to the organization option.
- Add org-managed content to the Pathway.
Once an organization ID is added to a Pathway, it remains associated with the Pathway. Therefore, you may still see insights on a private Pathway.
The Insights tab is visible to:
- Pathway collaborators,
- Users with the View Organization Insights permission, and
- Users with the Manage Pathways permission
What is a task and how do I complete it?
Tasks in a Pathway are simply meant to instruct you to perform the activity written in the task. When you click a task, it opens as a content item within Degreed. Tasks do not redirect you to external content. After you read and perform the action requested in the task, click Mark Complete.
How do I mark content in a Pathway as optional?
When you create a Pathway, content that you add to the Pathway is required by default. To mark content as optional:
- Click Edit Pathway.
- Find the content you want to make optional and click > Mark as Optional.
- Click Done Editing.
To mark optional content as required:
- Click Edit Pathway.
- Find the content you want to make required and click > Mark as Required.
- Click Done Editing.
Why is the section in the Pathway I completed not showing as complete?
Learning items that are marked as optional do not count towards your overall Pathway progress. If the content in the section you completed was optional, that section will not be marked as complete.
The Pathway completion status that displays at the top of the page shows you the percentage of content within the Pathway that you’ve marked complete. A green checkmark indicates that all required content has been completed. To see your completed Pathways, from your Profile page click the Pathways tab. Completed Pathways display in the Completed section. For more information, see Content, Pathway, and Plan Completions.
Why am I seeing the error message 'Oh! You don’t have access to this page...’ when trying to access a Pathway?
The Pathway visibility might be limited to some users within the organization because it could be set to Private. Contact the user or the team who shared the Pathway link with you and ask them to review the visibility setting of the Pathway. If the Pathway visibility is restricted to certain Groups, they need to add you as a member in order to access and view the Pathway.
If you need further assistance, please contact Degreed support.
Why are my changes not saved when removing collaborators from a Pathway?
Not all collaborators can be removed at once. At least one collaborator must remain on a Pathway to ensure someone is responsible for the content. If the only collaborator of a Pathway is no longer part of the organization, or moved on to another role, either delete the Pathway or add someone else as a collaborator instead.
