Your organization has access to a variety of content from a variety of sources. You can access content from Providers such as LinkedIn or Pluralsight, from external sources such as YouTube or Google docs, and from your internal Catalog.
What is Org-managed Content?
All content included in, and added to, your internal catalog is considered "org-managed."
Additionally, Plans and Pathways can be org-managed. For users with the Manage Plans and Directories permission, org-managed Plans are available on the Manage Plans page, in Reporting, and on collaborators' profiles. For users with the Manage Pathways permission, org-managed Pathways are available on the Manage Pathways page, on collaborators' profiles, and may be available in Reporting.
However, not all Plans and Pathways are org-managed.
Plans and Pathways are org-managed if one of the following applies:
- The visibility is Visible to Groups.
- The visibility is Visible to the Organization.
- The Plan or Pathway contains any org-managed content , regardless of the visibility.
Plans and Pathways are not org-managed if:
- The visibility is Private to Collaborators or Visible on collaborators' profiles, AND the Plan or Pathway does not contain any org-managed content.
How Does Org-managed Content Effect Plans and Pathways?
Some users prefer to keep Plans or Pathways private to their own profile or to collaborators' profiles, and may not want them visible to groups, the organization, or the public. When creating Plans and Pathways, setting the visibility to Private to Collaborators meets this level of privacy. In other words, these Plans and Pathways are not org-managed.
When you add content to Plans or Pathways from an external source, this privacy setting is maintained and the Plan or Pathway is not org-managed. However, when you add org-managed content to Plans or Pathways, they automatically become org-managed and are now available on the Manage Plans or Manage Pathways pages, and on collaborators' profiles. Org-managed Plans are also available in Reporting.
How will I Know if the Content I'm Adding is Org-managed?
When adding org-managed content to a Plan or Pathway that is not org-managed, a message displays informing you that adding this content will make the Plan or Pathway org-managed. This gives you the option to keep your Plan or Pathway private by choosing not to add the org-managed content.
There are several ways to add org-managed content to a Plan or Pathway, and the message displays from whichever option you choose:
- Adding a content item with the Add Content option in a Plan or Pathway
- Selecting Add to Plan or Add to Pathway from a content item's More Options menu
- Choosing the Add this <content type> to <your organization's> catalog when adding external content to a Plan or Pathway
