Issue Description:
When I view a plan in non-edit (learner) mode, I do not see sections that only contain a section title and section description. However, when I switch to edit mode, those same sections are visible to me as the author or collaborator, even though they do not contain any content items.
Cause:
This occurs because plan with mixed resources sections without content items are intentionally hidden from learners. The system is designed to display only sections that contain at least one content item in learner mode.
Resolution:
This behavior is working as designed. To ensure a section is visible to learners, you must add at least one content item to the section before publishing the plan.
If you want learners to see the section title and description, follow these steps:
- Open the plan in edit mode
- Navigate to the section that only has a title and description
- Add at least one content item to the section
- Save and publish the plan
Once the section contains content, it will appear in learner mode.
Additional Note:
This behavior is consistent with other "hide empty" patterns used throughout the product, such as hiding empty content cards when viewed in learner mode.
Behavior with other section types:
- Text and Image: The section is displayed in the plan when having only title and description.
- Link: The section is displayed because it contains mandatory fields to add the link to the content, so it is not empty.
- Opportunities: The section is displayed because it automatically adds opportunities to the section, so it is not empty.
