Incident Summary:
On November 18, 2025, between 1:23 AM UTC and 8:15 AM UTC (approximately 7 hours), users experienced intermittent issues logging into Degreed US and Canada production environments. When attempting to log in via the main login page, users received a 500 error message stating "Oops something went wrong."
Root Cause:
The issue was caused by a configuration gap in our web application servers. Our login system requires secure HTTPS connections to protect your data. However, a missing configuration setting prevented our servers from correctly recognizing incoming connections as secure when they passed through our Azure cloud infrastructure. This caused the login security validation to fail, resulting in the error messages you experienced.
Resolution:
Our engineering team identified and applied the necessary configuration change to ensure our servers properly recognize secure connections from Azure's infrastructure. The issue was fully resolved at 8:15 AM UTC for US environments and 7:53 AM UTC for Canada environments. We continued monitoring the systems for several hours afterward to ensure stability.
Impact:
During this incident, users were unable to log in to Degreed through the standard login flow. Users who were already logged in were able to continue using Degreed without interruption.
Preventative Measures:
To prevent similar issues in the future, we are implementing several improvements:
- Standardizing configuration settings across all our production environments to prevent inconsistencies
- Adding automated testing that validates the complete login flow through our cloud infrastructure before deploying changes
- Enhancing our monitoring systems to provide faster diagnosis of configuration-related issues
- Documenting and enforcing cloud infrastructure best practices across all environments
We apologize for any inconvenience this incident caused. The security and reliability of our platform is our highest priority, and we are committed to implementing the improvements outlined above.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to our support team.
