Image Requirements
All Images
- Maximum file size limit is 5 MB.
- If you choose a moving .gif file, Degreed automatically selects a still image from it.
- Supported image types include .jpg, .png, and .gif (exception for Badges).
- Key brand or text elements should exist within a 1280 x 400 (16:5) “safe zone” leaving a 160px buffer on both the top and bottom.
- To best support both contexts, we recommend using 16:9 images that include any essential text or brand elements within the 16:5 “safe zone” (the middle of the vertical space).
- Images saved with the CMYK color profile are not supported. If you receive an error when uploading an image that meets all other requirements, use an image editor such as Paint to verify, and save the image with the RGB color profile.
Content Cards
A content item's content card displays on the Home page, on the Featured page, inside of your profile on the Collections tab, inside of Plans, Directories, and Pathways, and on the Search Results page.
- Content cards display in a 16:9 ratio.
- The minimum pixel size for a content card source image is 1280px x 720px.

- Manage Catalog - Required to add an image to an internal catalog item
- Create Organizational Plans - Required to add an image when creating new Plans that are visible to the entire organization
- Create Organizational Pathways - Required to add an image when creating new Pathways that are visible to the entire organization
Content Details Cards
A content item's Content Details card displays in the View More modal and on the full Content Details page.
- Content Details cards display in a 16:5 ratio.
- The minimum pixel size for a content card source image is 1280px x400px.
Profile Pictures
- Minimum pixel size is 84px x 84px.
- Degreed replaces images smaller than 84px x 84px with a default image.
- Degreed automatically crops images with a different height-to-width ratio.
Image corners are removed, as your profile picture displays as a circle.
Badges
- Supported image types include .png, and .svg only.

Images uploaded as a Badge in Degreed must come from the badge issuer.
- Only Badges with the format Open Badge 2.0 are supported.
When you complete learning content that has a digital badge available, the accrediting organization provides you an image for badge sharing. These images are embedded with data that verifies the badge was legitimately earned.

An error also occurs if an image is uploaded as a Badge, but missing the necessary metadata:
Check if the provider of the digital badge is on the list of supported providers. If your badge was issued by a provider that is not on supported list, it is not accepted by Degreed.
