Use the Focus Skills section on the Home > My Learning page to manage your Focus Skills.
Overview
From the Focus Skills section, you can add Focus Skills, set Self Ratings and Skill Targets for each Focus Skill, and access your Profile > Skills page.
For each of your Focus Skills, a graphical chart compares your Self Rating to your Skill Target so you can easily track your skill gaps. The Skills Nudge section recommends actions you can take based on your current Focus Skills settings.
There are several factors that impact the data and recommendations that display in the Focus Skills section, including whether or not you have Focus Skills set, whether or not the Focus Skills have Self Ratings and Skill Targets set, and whether or not your organization has Allow Skill Suggestions and Degreed AI Skill Inferences enabled.
About Skill Recommendations
Skill recommendations only display in the Focus Skills section if your organization enables the following settings on the Admin > Skills > Settings page:
- Allow Skill Suggestions: Allows skill recommendations based on your recent activity. Recommendations show when no Focus Skills are set, and in the Skills Nudge section when you have at least one Focus Skill set, and the skill has both a Self Rating and a Skill Target Set.
-
Enable Degreed AI Skill Inference: Allows recommendations based on your Job Role, if the Job Role in your Profile > Settings > Personal Information field matches one of your organization's existing Roles.
Recommendations based on Job Role only show if you have no Focus Skills added.
- If both settings are disabled, the Focus Skills section will never recommend skills.
The Focus Skills Section without Focus Skills Added
If you have no Focus Skills added, the Focus Skills Chart and the Skills Nudge section will not display. Instead, you are prompted to add Focus Skills to your Profile. The prompt that displays depends on the following settings:
- If Allow Skill Suggestions and Degreed AI Skill Inferences are not enabled, you are prompted to add Focus Skills, but no skills are recommended.
- If only Allow Skill Suggestions is enabled, the Add Focus Skills prompt recommends skills you can add as Focus Skills.
- If Allow Skill Suggestions and Degreed AI Skill Inferences are both enabled, and your Job Role matches one of your organization's existing Roles, the Add Focus Skills prompt recommends Skills based on your Job Role.
Your Profile > Settings > Job Role must match an existing Role to see recommendations based on your Job Role.
The Focus Skills Section with Focus Skills Added
If you add one or more Focus Skills and choose not to set a Self Rating or Skill Target Level, the Focus Skills Chart and Skills Nudge sections still do not display, and you will be prompted to rate the Focus Skills.
About the Focus Skills Chart
The Focus Skills Chart displays once you set either a Self Rating or a Skill Target Level to at least one Focus Skill.
In the Focus Skills Chart, you can:
- See a graphical representation of your Focus Skills
- See the gap between your Skill Ratings and Skill Targets for each Focus Skill, if both are set.
- Click the name of a Focus Skill to edit the Self Rating or Skill Target Level.
- Click Manage Skills to open your Profile > Skills page.
- Click Add Focus Skill if you have less than 4 Focus Skills set.
About the Skills Nudge Section
The Skills Nudge section recommends actions to take based on your current settings. Recommendations can include adding skills to your Profile, or adding Skill Ratings and Skill Targets to existing Focus Skills.
If you have Focus Skills added, but at least one of them does not have either a Skill Rating or a Skill Target set, the Nudge will always prompt you to do so. You can click the Focus Skill listed in the Nudge section to add the settings.
About Skill Suggestions
If all of your added Focus Skills have both a Self Rating and a Skill Target set, and:
- Your organization has Allow Skill Suggestions enabled, the Nudge section recommends additional Skills you can add to your Profile. The suggested Skills are based on your recent activity. You can click a skill to add to your Profile. Adding a skill from the Nudge adds it to your Profile, but does not add it to your Focus Skills.
- Your organization has Allow Skill Suggestions disabled, the Nudge does not display. The chart will expand across the full width of the Focus Skills section.
